frequently asked questions
who hires a Personal Chef?_
Busy professionals, time-pressed families, people with specific diets, seniors, and anyone wanting the convenience of delicious, healthy and customized meals made right in their home.
what does the cost include?
The cost includes initial consultation, customized menu planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, packaging with reheating instructions, and complete clean up. Cost of food is additional.
what happens during our consultation?
After we speak on the phone I will create a customized menu based on our initial conversation. This sample menu will begin our process in customizing your meals. I will also take a look at your kitchen to assess what supplies you may need for our first visit. And finally, we will decide the frequency of your services based on your lifestyle, and a billing structure that is most suitable for you.
sounds great, but is it expensive?
The cost per serving is less expensive than going out to dinner or getting gourmet take out. Pricing is customized and varies by menu.
do I have to be home when you cook?
No. It is not necessary as long as you make arrangements for me to have access to your kitchen.
do you serve meals?
I do not provide service during meals. However, I can plate meals instead of packaging them in containers.
how long does it take? how often can I schedule your services?
Approximately 6-8 hours. Time will vary based on the types and quantity of meals being prepared. Schedule visits at your convenience – weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or even times when you just really need it. Scheduling a one-time visit also makes a great gift!
how much room will you need in my refrigerator/freezer?
This depends on the amount of food you will order and how you would like it packaged. For instance, you will need to leave more room in your refrigerator or freezer if you want individually packaged meals versus family-style packaging.
will it be hard to reheat my meals?
Absolutely not! You will receive detailed reheating instructions.
what sort of equipment do I need to provide?
I recommend that you invest in re-heatable containers to package your meals. I will also need to use your pots/pans, stove, oven, sink, and sometimes a food processor and blender. I will bring my own general tools, such as knives.
how often will you shop for ingredients?
Ideally, I will shop right before I cook in your home to ensure the freshest ingredients. In some instances, clients who order a larger number meals may require delivery from the market. I may also shop for some grocery items before your visit in order to stock your pantry. Such items include sea salt, spices, vinegars, oils, flours, etc. Yes – you will have a wonderfully stocked pantry!
can I buy my own food? can I request a specific market close to my home?
Of course! If you prefer to shop for your own foods, please feel free. For example, some clients order CSA boxes in the summer. We can customize a menu based solely on your seasonal ingredients. I am also happy to shop at the market of your choice. For more information about Community Supported Agriculture (or CSA), please visit the links page.
